BREAST LIFT, OR MASTOPEXY
Sagging (ptotic) breasts, caused by a loss of elasticity of the skin tissue that supports the breast, can be corrected surgically with a breast lift, or mastopexy. Stretched skin around the breasts, resulting from weight fluctuations, breastfeeding or gravity, can be removed so the breasts regain their firmness. Sagging breasts need a lift; they cannot be raised with a silicone implant.
The breast lift procedure
- The technique used is determined by the shape of the breasts and the degree of sagging.
- The operation is done under general anesthesia.
- Depending on the procedure chosen, periareolar and/or vertical and lateral incisions are made, through which the breast tissue is lifted. The excess skin is removed and the edges are closed with sutures.
- The result is visible immediately.
Requirements for the procedure
- For this procedure, the breasts must have finished growing, so it is an operation for mature women.
Recovery after surgery
- The scars heal in several stages: they are red lines for the first 6 months, then heal completely and turn into thin white lines.
- The risks and complications after surgery are similar to those of any operation, such as bleeding, hematomas and infections, as well as the possibility of the sutures opening.
- The patient can resume daily activities about 12-14 days after the operation.
- The stitches are removed after 10-12 days, and wearing a special bustier is recommended for a month after the operation.
- For two to three months after the operation, physical effort, especially with the arms, is resumed gradually; after the recovery period, you can return to normal.
