The dermatologist diagnoses and treats more than 3,000 conditions, including skin cancers (for example, melanoma), inflammatory and infectious skin diseases, acne, sexually transmitted diseases, skin aging problems and so on.
Dermoscopy – a modern method of skin diagnosis
Dermoscopy is recommended especially for diagnosing pigmented skin lesions – nevi (moles) – to identify skin cancer early: melanoma, basal cell and squamous cell carcinoma. It is an effective, fast and non-invasive method used to increase the accuracy of clinical diagnosis.
The method consists of examining the surface of the skin and the deeper structures with a dermatoscope. The dermatoscope magnifies the image of the skin structures so that changes can be clearly seen and interpreted.
💡 Everyone should have a dermoscopy once a year, or more often (every 4-6 months) if they have fair skin or many moles, have had repeated sunburns, or have first-degree relatives with skin cancer.
