Many factors can spoil the facial appearance we care so much about: thinning skin, loss of facial fat, the side effects of sun exposure, smoking, heredity, stress. Whatever the reasons, a facelift can be an effective way to treat these wrinkles, on both the face and the neck.
You can consider this operation if:
- You are in good health
- You have realistic expectations.
A facelift takes 2-6 hours. The anesthesia can be local with intravenous sedation, or general. During the operation, structures such as the SMAS and fat are repositioned and the excess skin is removed.
What results can you expect?
Even though recovery takes 3-5 weeks, you will enjoy younger-looking skin, and this will surely make you much more self-confident. In some cases, another procedure may be needed to complement the first.
How does recovery go?
A facelift is not painful, and the swelling and bruising will go away in 10-14 days. After the operation you will need to wear an elastic bandage/mask around your face. It reduces the risk of swelling and bruising. You may also need to wear small tubes to drain blood or other fluids. After the operation, avoid exposure to the sun or extreme cold. The recovery period is about 2 weeks, after which you can resume your social life. Within 2 or 3 months, sensation will return. The result lasts 10-12 years.
What are the risks of a facelift?
The risks are those of anesthesia and surgery in general (bleeding, hematoma, infection, lung and heart complications, etc.), as well as other risks associated with this type of operation (irritation from stitches, skin discoloration, injury to certain facial nerves, persistent pain, etc.).
Keep in mind!
If you choose this procedure, it can be combined with other procedures (brow lift, blepharoplasty, lipofilling, skin resurfacing)
Remember: have this operation for yourself, not for the people around you or to match an ideal image!
