Procedure
Facial implants are solid, preformed, three-dimensional objects used to improve the size and look of various areas, including the chin, jaw and cheeks. A facial implant gives the face a more harmonious look. Various implant materials are used to make these contour changes. There are also different implant shapes depending on the area to be improved. The operation takes about an hour and a half.
Anesthesia
General anesthesia, or intravenous sedation with local anesthesia, are commonly used.
Inpatient / Outpatient
This is an outpatient procedure.
Possible side effects
Temporary discomfort and swelling, mild bruising.
Risks
The implant may need to be removed and/or replaced to treat problems such as implant rupture, infection or incorrect placement. Rejection of the implant is a risk, but extremely rare.
Recovery
The patient can return to work and normal activities within a few days. The patient must not drink alcohol after the operation.
Results
The result varies from patient to patient, but it is essentially permanent. The overall effect is an enhancement of the deficient contours of the face, with an improved look.
